What To Expect At Your Hartford In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

Before you choose what window treatment to order, some companies, like Sunburst, recommend an in-home consultation. By taking samples to you, we can present how different shutters, blinds, and shades would look with your decor. This process makes it easier to envision your options and helps you feel great about your final choice.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how can meeting a representative in your home allow you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Different companies may have a different agenda for their in-home consultation, but here is what you will get during your Sunburst appointment.

Detailing A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

People choosing between samples of window treatments.

Start by making an appointment by contacting your local representative. If you already can picture the perfect coverings for you window, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make it a point to show you different options available for your preferred treatment. We will also show additional treatments, so you can feel confident that your choice matches your vision.

When we arrive, we’ll sit down and figure out what you are looking for in a window treatment. We’ll spefically ask about your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency needs, and we’ll discuss hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your representative will also want to know how the room is used and what aesthetic you want to attain. We want to achieve your final vision, so the more you can explain, the better.

You may have to see many different products until we uncover the correct window treatment for the room. Most customers need to try out a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or choosing the perfect stain to match your color scheme. We’ll also demonstrate all the options available for the covering, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once a decision is made, we’ll take precise measurements of your windows. We generally measure the windows in every room in your home—even if you only want to fit treatments for some of your windows. We do this because most of our customers want to order future shutters or blinds with just a phone call. Finally, we will walk you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Poor In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are confident that Sunburst will perform professional in-home consultation, there are some red flags you should never see from any window treatment company. After all, the quality of your sales representative usually equals the quality of the product.

Above all else, your consultant should be careful and professional. They should come to your house as scheduled, ready to present, and offer to prevent floor scuffs with shoe booties. Your rep should always give you product and company pamphlets and pricing information.

When it comes to price, you should be given a full written quote. Don’t accept a guesstimate, scribbled on a blank page or the back of a business card. And always reject a quote without window measurement. You should always know how much product and installation should cost. Also, look up references and online reviews before you place an order.
